About the Author
Tracy D. Terrell (late) received his Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin and published extensively in the area of Spanish dialectology. Professor Terrell’s publications on second-language acquisition are widely known in the United States and abroad.

Magdalena Andrade Received her first B.A. in Spanish/French and a second B.A. in English from San Diego University. After teaching in the Calexico Unified School District Bilingual Program for several years, she taught elementary and intermediate Spanish at both San Diego State and the University of California, Irvine, where she also taught Spanish for Heritage Speakers and Humanities Core Courses. Upon receiving her Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, she continued to teach there for several years and also at California State University, Long Beach. Currently an instructor at Irvine Valley College, Professor Andrade has co-authored Mundos de fantas�a: F�bulas, cuentos de hadas y leyendas and Cocina y comidas hispanas (McGraw-Hill).

Jeanne Egasse Received her B.A. and M.A. in Spanish linguistics from the University of California, Irvine. She has taught foreign language methodology courses and supervised foreign language and ESL teachers in training for the Department of Education at the University of California, Irvine. El�as Miguel Mu�oz is a Cuban American poet and prose writer. He has a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Irvine, and he has taught language and literature at the university level. Dr. Mu�oz is the author of Viajes fant�sticos, Ladr�n de la mente, and Isla de luz, titles in the Storyteller's Series by McGraw-Hill. He has published five other novels, two books of literary criticsm, and two poetry collections. His creative work has been featured in numerous anthologies and sourcebooks, including Herencia: The Anthology of Hispanic Literature of the United States, The Encyclopedia of American Literature, and The Scribner Writers Series:Latino and Latina Writers.

Best text on the market for Spanish Instruction

I teach college Spanish and I love this text. It is thoughtfully constructed and provides numerous activities for communication in the target language. Dos mundos also provides very useful ideas for instructors. The pages are colorful and the content engaging. My students love all the activities I use from this text. I wish more Spanish instructors would embrace the methodology presented in Dos mundos. My level one Spanish students actually speak Spanish (albeit low-level Spanish). I don't know if I would recommend this text for independent study, however. I believe it would be most effective if used in conjunction with a dynamic instructor. I do agree that the authors should include a separate English-Spanish dictionary section. I also find the video segments to be very poor (and why are they exactly the same as the ones for Puntos de partida when they both have such different approaches to language acquisition?)

I've been using Dos Mundos in my Spanish III class this fall and it's been a quite positive experience. I'm a former English teacher, and a long time psychologist, so I have some feel for the teaching/learning dynamic of a text. I'm finding DM to be intelligently written and organized, with many different kinds of activities that build on and integrate what you're learning. I like the way history, art, pop culture, geography, politics, music, literature, etc. are interspersed throughout DM. There's cartoons, color, and a reasonably unstilted, good-hearted consciousness in the book. For those of us used to American textbooks which have been reduced to squirmy blandness by pressure groups leaning on state textbook purchasing agencies, it's a bit refreshing to encounter occasional perspectives on economic and political injustice, environmental exploitation, etc. Not that this is a particularly political book, it's just that these things are usually soooooo sanitized. Some people have complained about the lack of an English to Spanish dictionary in this book. Face it---you need to buy a little dictionary to have when you're reading DM and learning Spanish. No added-on dictionary section is going to be complete enough to meet your needs. You'll only be wasting time using it, since half the time the word you're looking for won't be there anyway. You might as well go to the dictionary in the first place. To sum it up: I like this book and I'm in the process of reading the seven chapters which were previously covered in Spanish I and II, which I didn't take in this sequence.

this is not a bad spanish book. i don't know if i would say it is great. lots of group activities that are helpful, but they are pretty simple and repetitive. they need to be a little more thoughtful and put in lots of DIFFERENT activities. one last, quite frustrating thing, there is only a spanish-english dictionary in the back. extremely irritating because this is a spanish 1-2 book, and anytime you want to look up a word, you'll need to consult another dictionary.

The few tattered legions pinned in these cities can only watch on from the battlements as smoke rises across their lost lands and the Goths roam at will, pillaging and extorting. Every Roman – legionary or citizen – speaks of only one thing: the Emperors of East and West, Valens and Gratian, who are said to be closing swiftly on this war-stricken land, each bringing with them vast armies capable of vanquishing the horde. Awaiting the relief armies in Constantinople, Centurion Pavo and the XI Claudia prepare as best they can. The Gothic War has taken much from each of them, and none more so than Pavo. But still he and his fellow officers cling to the chance that two lost to them might yet return: their leaders, Tribunus Gallus and Primus Pilus Dexion – Pavo’s brother – have not been seen or heard from since setting off on a mission to Emperor Gratian’s court in the West. Some are sure they must have fallen, yet Pavo refuses to give up hope, instead whetting his blade and praying that fate will guide the pair back in time for the clash that is to come: a clash that promises to end the Gothic War – for the empire’s finest legions are destined to meet Fritigern’s ferocious masses… on the plains of Adrianople.

I'm a Scottish writer, addicted to reading and writing historical fiction. My love of history was piqued during spells living and working close to both Hadrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall, sites of rich history winding back through thousands of years. The later Roman Empire and Byzantium hold a particular fascination for me. There is something quite special about the metamorphosis from late antiquity into the 'dark ages' and the medieval period. Beginning of the End!

4.5/5. I'm quite enthusiastic about this latest adventure of Pavo and his comrades of the XI Claudia. 378 AD: contention between Goths under Fritigern and the Roman Empire. The whole story engendered much excitement ranging from the escape of Tribunus Gallus from the dungeons of the Western Emperor, Gratian and his making his way through horrendous obstacles back to the forces of Valens, the Eastern Emperor to delaying tactics of Gratian and the final conflict at Adrianople between Goths and Romans, where Romans are betrayed by a subterfuge. Pavo personally discovers the evil of a person he has held dear but rises above it, though I'm sure it will always hurt him.

I enjoyed the battle sequences--Gratian against a Goth invasion that takes him off the road to the East, and the debacle that was Adrianople; the banter and interplay between Pavo and his friends; Pavo's recurring nightmare sequences, which might portend the future. They remind me of a similar prophetic dream shared by several people in The End of Sparta by Victor Hansen, but I liked Gordon's better, because of his including symbolism. I enjoyed reading Tribunus Gallus's Near Death Experiences, in which he sees his dead wife and son. Gordon's style has improved since his last novel; it was action-packed and tightly paced. I wonder why a regular publisher has not snapped him up--unless there might be a greater amount of independence in self-publishing.

End of an Era!!!

The end of an era and the start of something new. A fantastic read which picks up where the previous one left off. Here we see Tribunus Gallus in desperate trouble and only two things to keep him alive. A burning desire for revenge and his love for his legion.
Meanwhile back in the East Pavo and his friends await their fearless leaders return and prepare for war against the Goths.
And in between there are forces at work who would see the destruction of the Eastern legions and their Emperor.
Gordon Doherty has once again written a great book and put his own fascinating spin on a story based on historical fact.
The author stated that when he first started this series that this was what he had in mind for his principal characters, and now he's reached that pinnacle it will be interesting to see which way the story travels from here.

Gripping instalment from Gordon Doherty, I took up my position amongst the ranks of my favourite legion with the first turning of the page. Just another faceless helm but a veteran of all previous engagements. Trusting I would survive this one . Again like some giddy child behind the wheel of his first dodgem ride at the local fair there was no doubt of satisfaction. Bumping into some real unsavoury types with a jolt I found this particular transportation well designed with a smooth continuity that could not help but impress. By now you're thinking' this guy's a fan well let's..

Not a Computational Astronomy hands on manual

I am pretty disappointed with this book because i assumed that it was going to walk you through actually doing stats and ML on astronomical data sets. However, all of the codes in the book just show you how to use the astroML functions without using them on actually data sets. Instead the authors just make random variables then throw them into the functions... I would have much more appreciated the steps:
1. Show and explain an astronomical dataset
2. Do stats and ML on those datasets with a full explanation

Something that sets this book apart is how different numerical approaches to the same problem are compared. It's often true that you have several methods to choose from, and the best choice depends on the character of your data or expected solution or computational resources. This book does a great job of summarizing tradeoffs in such decisions, and gives insight into making appropriate choices.

tell it like it is firefighter comes to Kevin’s rescue

The Bronco’s Boys series wraps up as soon as all of the men have found partners who deserve them. By the Round and Round book only Kevin still is single with no prospects. Well, that’s not quite true. He and Ken were almost a couple but that just didn’t work out.
When Kevin’s life and all of his property are threatened by a serial arsonist a rough, tell it like it is firefighter comes to Kevin’s rescue. Angus, or “MacDreamy Hotness” as Kevin comes to think about him, is the right match for Kevin. In fact, if you read Andrew Grey’s blog you will see there are more plans for Angus.
Neither man seems to understand the subtleties of flirting and dating. Therefore they misfire more than once. However, with the threats to Kevin’s life Angus isn’t willing to stand aside and let nature take its course. The arsonist and the fires, fatal to one important character, are the source of the angst in this book and it’s enough to glue you to the book until you finish it.
Bronco’s Boys is a series with more than a little drama, which sets it apart from some of Mr. Grey’s other books. I’ve loved following the adventures and misadventures of all of the men, who are close friends and as I always do with Mr. Grey’s series, I hate to see this one end. It ends on a high note with just the right HEAs for everyone, so I can put it aside to be read again another time.
I recommend this book for anyone who has read the rest of the series. It can comfortably be read as a stand alone but I think you will be drawn into their world and want to read the other books, too. And, if you drool over hot (in every sense of the word) firefighters, this is the book for you.

What Comes Around...

What a wonderful way to end a series. Three mid-20s gay men who are best of friends (Zach, Jeremy, Tristan) find love with three older hunks (Bull, Spook, Harry), with the key venue being Bronco's, a gay bar in central Pennsylvania where the young men dance and the older guys own, or hide out in.

In this book Angus, a hot mid-30s fireman originally from Scotland, and Kevin, the kind of cute and very geeky young one who has yet to find his love, meet in tragic circumstances and proceed to experience more tragedy, angst, love, lust and doubt as the plot unwinds.

This is the kind of stuff Andrew Grey excels at and in this one he really gets somewhat gruesome with all the fire activity, but it's key to everything. The romance is very rocky indeed, there are a couple of other (unrequited gay) characters who are perfectly set up to start a new series, and there is a general good feeling at the end.

My only complaint would be a spoiler, so I won't mention it because it's not as important to the book as are the implications of the cover. Woof!

Love this author

I love this series. I am sad to see it end but understand that now all the guys have found love their stories are finished. I was happy to see that Andrew Grey has said that he plans to do a series involving so of the guys we met in this book. I can't wait to see what come next. I have always enjoyed the fact that several of his series all revolve around the same town so you are always getting hints about other things from different stories.

Chock full o' massive value

I don't even know what to say here, but I'll start with this. This book is worth hmmmm 1000 times the price? maybe more? John's podcast is one of only 2 I actually listen to EVERY single time a new episode is released. I have failed miserably in taking quality notes, but I've still managed to benefit just from what I'm listening to, which is rare. This book solves that problem.
